Métrochorie

installation // Lausanne (Switzerland)

Identifying the territory as two distinct entities, city and countryside, is losing its relevance today:

From the 1980s onwards, the countryside rapidly became urbanised under the influence of commuters. It is hard to define today: the same way of life as in the city, daily journeys between city and countryside, the same means of communication…

The new M2 metro will make Lausanne easier to reach for all the inhabitants of its northern countryside, but it will also facilitate the massive urbanisation of that countryside.

At the same time, a new movement is taking shape: the idea of a cultivable or green city – guerrilla gardening, a planted tramway line (Bilbao), vertical farm projects (Korea), community gardens, ecological construction with green roofs.

And what if Lausanne Jardins 2009 became the pretext for a massive colonisation of the city by agricultural cereals… The new metro would then serve to disseminate young country shoots throughout the city.
