The Roots of the Future

garden // Luxembourg

For LUGA 2025, “The Roots of the Future” is a temporary garden in the form of a landscape sculpture, overlooking the Alzette valley in the garden of LUCA – Luxembourg Center for Architecture, on the former site of the Clausen brewery.

At the foot of the planted cliff, giant steel roots emerge from the vertical garden and reach out towards the valley. Hops and climbing plants twine around them and climb them. A timber deck, drawn like a map and cut into by the plants, welcomes visitors, walkers and young gardeners across 40 × 15 m.

Designed by atelier eem and Paysarchitectures – Gilles Brusset; the steel structure was engineered and built by UOTNI.
