Studio Le Regard du Cygne

This performance venue, born from the renovation of a former 19th-century coaching inn, has been a landmark for experimentation in contemporary dance in Paris since its creation in the 1980s.

The choice to preserve its original materials and handcrafted character, and to blend spaces for creation and performance, still makes it an unusual and exceptional place of creation for the city today.

The need to adapt it to the requirements of today’s stages led to the modification of the timber load-bearing structure, removing a central post and opening up the space; a new telescopic seating system was installed to multiply the possible uses; the wooden floor was renovated, and bringing circulation and facilities up to code made it possible to consider raising the venue’s public-access category.

A renovation that chooses to keep and reuse what exists: timber structure, floorboards and original materials.
